ABOUT STEVEN

"YOU HAVEN'T SEEN AUSTRALIA UNLESS YOU SEE IT FROM THE AIR. THE COASTLINE, THE COLOURS OF THE INLAND, THE CLAYPANS, THE FORESTS; IT’S JUST ALL SO BEAUTIFUL. YOU'D NEVER SEE THAT FROM THE ROAD. PEOPLE CLIMB MOUNTAINS TO SEE THESE THINGS. YOU SEE THAT EVERY TIME YOU TAKE OFF.”

– Nancy, Bird-Walton

Steven Stanley Manolakis is an American photographer based in Sydney. His images of landscapes photographed from above provide a unique view of what lies surrounding us. He creates an intimate relationship between human psychology, thought and landscape from a challenging and rarely experienced perspective. Anyone can take photos from a plane, whereas Steven avoids the erosion of meaning and direction in the work by focusing on form, design and purpose. The result are photographs that are not only beautiful to look at but also capture the elegance and often remarkable simplicity of a vast and diverse landscape.
